From Monday, 15th June we're officially able to open, and while this is very exciting - I am very mindful that COVID has not gone away. We've been relatively fortunate here in Cornwall and we want it to stay that way. To make things as safe as possible for you we're taking this very gradually and will be opening by appointment only for the next couple of weeks.

Full Bloom is the second of our spring exhibitions at the Byre Gallery and we’re bringing it to you in a slightly abbreviated form - but still bursting with spring colour and brightness, and of course some highly desirable art...

Sadly we're not able to open the gallery doors as we hoped - what has to come first now is that we all listen and act on guidance - stay at home and look after ourselves. You can enjoy 'Postcards from the Edge,' virtually though - take a look at the exhibitions page and click through from there.

Postcards from the Edge, our stunning new exhibition of work inspired by the South West Coast Path opens online on 28th March - we'd love to be able to open the gallery doors but that depends on government advice. The exhibition features stunning work in silver, ceramics, glass - and paintings - but artists and makers who either live in or are inspired by the south west coast path in Cornwall.
- Summer is finally coming to the Byre Gallery - The Coast is Clear, the first of our two summer exhibitions, opens on Saturday. I'm delighted to welcome back Siobhan Purdy with a new collection of her wonderfully witty work which had been created especially for The Coast is Clear and is all inspired by the Cornish seaside. Also making a welcome return with some wonderful new pots in his very distinctive style, is Chris Taylor, and he's joined by fellow ceramicists Lucy Burley, Helen Harrison, Remon Jephcott, Kathryn Sherriff and Jessica Thorn who have each created some wonderful new pieces.
- As it's a very wet and windy morning in Cornwall I thought an image of more appealing wintery weather might brighten the day for those of us under grey skies. If you who visited the gallery for the second of our summer exhibitions - Hidden Depths - you would have seen Kerry Harding's very striking work, which won her many new fans. I am of course a huge fan; I love her dramatic style of capturing land and seascapes, but I have to admit I'm totally smitten by the much more gentle landscape in the picture above - Jean's House. I find myself being drawn across the wintery field to that very inviting house; captivating.

It already feels like spring has sprung - how lovely it is to enjoy being outdoors with blue skies, spring flowers, and blossom on trees; long may it continue! But even if there is change to cooler, blustery days, the joys of spring will be very much in evidence at the Byre Gallery over the next few months.

... it feels rather wonderfully like summer has been here for months now, and finally the gallery is catching up! We have two summer exhibitions this year - A Drop in the Ocean from 14th July until 12th August and then Hidden Depths from 15th August. As ever there are lots of wonderfully pieces from both new and regular artists and makers and this year I've collected some of them in a brochure - to take a look at the pdf version, please click on the link below the cover image. If you'd like to see a 'real' version, please get in touch.

Taste, our new exhibition for spring is now open - and we're open all Easter weekend. The gallery is full of stunning pieces to bring spring freshness into your life. Jill Hudson's paintings and Sarah Morris' woodcut prints sing from the walls with their vibrant colours; and glass from Cat Mackenzie and Ruth Shelley seem to perfectly capture the hues of early spring.

The days are getting longer and hopefully the weather a little better, and The Byre's first exhibition of 2018 is on its way. Opening on 24th March, Taste features a mix of makers and artists both new and familiar to The Byre's audiences.
