David Muddyman - Rame Across the Sound ii (unframed)
Watercolour and minerals on paper, 39x58cm. This work is unframed.
David Muddyman is a graduate of Plymouth College of Art and continues to live and work in the city. Much of his work is inspired by the landscapes and seascapes around the Rame Peninsula in south-east Cornwall, Plymouth and west Devon. David’s work can regularly be seen at the Byre Gallery and a collection is available online.
"The natural world has always been the subject of my work and these paintings try to capture an instant in time within the landscape – the colours, the light, textures and sounds. I like to paint from memory so I don’t paint in-situ but make notes of the how the scene makes me feel; what the weather is like; colours and pigment mixes I might use; and the sounds surrounding me, both real and imagined."
David has been painting the South West coast path for the past three years mainly capturing Plymouth Sound and the Rame Peninsula. He says,: "the path is equivalent to the line on a page which meanders along and leads the eye; giving me the colour and texture of land, sea and sky. Forever changing light and hue due to time and season means that I could paint the same view several times but each is different. My gaze can be above the coast or rooted in it; my brush describes the view, and feeling for the view, in condensed blocks of texture and colour."
