Judy McKenzie - Black Floral Semi Circular Bottle
Judy McKenzie - Black Floral Semi Circular Bottle, grogged procelain
16cm x 14.5cm x 5.5cm
Judy's porcelain vessel has been made entirely by hand using the Japanese technique of Nerikomi - a process which joins together many small individually patterned pieces to form a whole. The porcelain has been coloured using oxides and ceramic stains. After firing the surface is then polished with diamond pads to achieve the tactile sheen. Should any small cracks have appeared in firing, another Japanese technique - Kintsugi, repairing with silver - is employed.
Each piece has its own unique pattern and no two will ever be the same.
As no glaze is used Judy's work is not suitable for food use nor will it hold water. Should you wish to use it to display flowers, placing a smaller glass jar inside the vase works very effectively, but this distinctive piece really needs no adornment!
