Imogen Bone is a Cornish based artist who works both en plain air and in her studio where she translates her drawn response to the environment into a more considered reflection of place in the studio; one discipline influencing the other. The energy captured in the drawings helps maintain a spirit of place in the paintings and the skills honed in the studio allows her to work fluidly outside. She endeavours to keep a freshness and freedom to her paintings underpinned with accurately delineated realism.
Her visual language, depicted through brushstrokes and drawn line, is constantly evolving and she feels is reflective of the changing coastline. The same part of coast that in one season can be tumbled boulders, wild seas and strong colours, the next season can be soft sand and tranquillity; the combined force of elements giving this restless landscape.
Alongside her own practice, Imogen is a tutor at Newlyn School of Art where she teaches a short course called ‘Coast’. Within this discussing technical aspects of material and structure of painting, demonstrating processes and grounded with a foundation understanding of the physical aspects of landscape.
