Val Muddyman - Wavelets Stud earrings
Val Muddyman’s body of work entitled ‘Tidelines’ is inspired by the seaweed she collects. She captures the textures of the organic material and the resulting jewellery is delicate and beautiful. She collects seaweed from the strandline around Devil’s Point, near Royal William Yard. This has become a key factor for change in her working practices as her environmental awareness has grown.
Val now works in a sustainable way using only recycled silver and her own glass ‘gems’ by reworking sea glass. The glass had a former life, but now attains a level of preciousness and beauty - the process creating droplets of colour which are either set or cast directly into the metal.
Val works in seaweed and wax, carving and constructing before sending items off to be cast or sand-casting in the studio. If you would like more photographs of pieces of jewellery being worn - or held up to the ear - or would like a virtual tour of the collection by What's App, Face Time or Zoom please let us know and it can easily be arranged.

How long until my items arrive?
Items from the Byre usually ship within 4 working/business days of the order being placed. If an item is made to order, that will be noted on the item’s description and you will be informed of the timescale via email.
Packing & Postage?
Our P&P costs reflect the delicate nature of many of the pieces available in the store. Great care is taken in packing so that your new precious piece will arrive safely with you.
All smaller items are posted via either First Class Royal Mail or Royal Mail Special Delivery depending on the item. For larger pieces and paintings, we use carefully selected courier companies or a specialist art courier, please do contact us to discuss if you have any concerns.
International: We happily ship work internationally, please do get in touch via email or phone to discuss an international shipping quotation.
I have seen something in the Byre Gallery or on Instagram/Facebook that isn’t in the Online Store! Can I buy it?
Of course. If you contact us we’ll see if the item is still available and add it to the online store for you or arrange separate purchasing terms.
