Composed: David Muddyman watercolours
Welcome to the online version of Composed - a collection of the late David Muddyman's colourful abstract watercolours of the Devon and Cornwall coastline showing at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard, Plymouth from 7th to 18th March 2023.
When I first met Dave in 2018 and he showed me his elegant work, I assumed he'd brought me pieces inspired by the Rame Peninsula and Mount Edgcumbe because they were so local to the Byre Gallery. But no he assured me, the south east Cornwall coastline was actually one his favourites to paint, before adding - with a slight blush - that as he couldn't drive it was also the easiest spot to get to from his home in Plymouth using public transport. As Dave's many stunning works featuring the Rame Peninsula were hugely popular with our clients I am more than a little thankful that Dave didn't ever get round to taking driving lessons.
Dave was a delight to work with, and a lovely friend whose company and huge talent I miss.
