Summer Days

Summer is finally coming to the Byre Gallery - The Coast is Clear, the first of our two summer exhibitions, opens on Saturday. I’m delighted to welcome back Siobhan Purdy with a new collection of her wonderfully witty work which had been created especially for The Coast is Clear and is all inspired by the Cornish seaside. Also making a welcome return with some wonderful new pots in his very distinctive style, is Chris Taylor, and he’s joined by fellow ceramicists Lucy Burley, Helen Harrison, Remon Jephcott, Kathryn Sherriff and Jessica Thorn who have each created some wonderful new pieces. I'm also really excited to introduce two new glass artists: Susan Kinley mixes fragments of photography with glass powders before kiln firing to create her very original and quite stunning wall mounted work; I saw Ellie Burton's beautiful glass vessels in her degree show two years ago and rather fell in love with it, so I'm thrilled she's showing at the Byre. There is also a gorgeous new glass collection from the very talented Byre Gallery regular, Catriona MacKenzie which I'm sure these will delight her existing - and new - admirers. Also making her Byre Gallery debut is jeweller Lucy Gibson, her elegant pieces in gold and silver are sure to win many new fans. And Byre regulars Corrinne Eira Evans and Amy Stringer both return with highly covetable new jewellery collections. Hope to see you there!
