An artist jeweller based in a rural workshop deep in the Otter Valley of East Devon, Ann trained in small scale metal design on the Three-Dimensional Design degree course at Brighton College of Art and is a member of MAKE SouthWest, formerly the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. Her other lives have included a childhood in Hong Kong and livestock farming in Devon.
Ann’s practice explores the passage of time with its associated erosion and corrosion, resulting in eminently wearable sculpted forms encrusted with layers of texture and patinas, many having been inspired by the Slade collection of Echinoderms at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter. Constant handling by the wearer will subtly change the surface patina and soften edges, reinforcing the impact of Time on the designs. Her jewellery is created from precious and semi-precious materials and laborious hand fabrication and finishing techniques, including forging, chasing, punching and etching, and patinas that may take months to mature.
