Full of the Joys

30th March - 27th April 2019

For Full of the Joys I’m delighted to introduce two artists both of whose work I discovered for the first time in Gallery Tresco on the Isles of Scilly last May. I was equally captivated by the wonderful sense of calm in Sophie Harding’s delightful and distinctive paintings, as I was by the energy and colours of Sara Bor’s landscapes. I’m so pleased to be able to bring them together again at the Byre gallery. I’m also delighted to welcome some other new faces: glass artist Alice Heaton - whose vibrant work deservedly won the Byre gallery award at last year’s Contemporary Craft Festival - is a rising star; Adrian Mitchell’s elegant wooden vessels are diffi cult not to fall in love with and I’m so pleased to have them in this exhibition; I’ve long been a fan of Val Muddyman’s exciting jewellery and am sure her work will win more admirers - as will fellow jewellers new to the gallery Cecile Gilbert and Judith Peterhoff . Ceramics have always been at the heart of the Byre and we have some wonderful new makers with fantastic work to tempt and delight: Rebecca Harvey, Helen Harrison, Judy McKenzie, Leigh Mason and Angie Wickenden.
