Winter at the Byre, our final exhibition of the year features work from some of our favourite artists and makers along with some exciting new discoveries including Devon-based artist Emma Carlisle.
Emma's paintings start on location where she takes photos and observes the scenery, although her favourite way to capture a sense of place is to draw en plein air in her sketchbook. Back in her studio, her paintings begin with layering, mark making and following her intuition. She works across several pieces at once and as they develop she starts to form compositions within the chaos. At this stage, she references her sketchbooks and see how drawings made on location can inspire the structures of the pieces. Painting this way means that each piece has a strong connection to the South West without being tied to a specific place, allowing the viewer to form their own narrative within the landscapes.
We're also delighted to welcome back Tara Leaver whose underwater inspired work won her many fans when we featured her work in the summer.
And jewellery galore from our very talented jewellery designers including Beverly Bartlett and Amy Stringer.
