Made in Colour
5th October – 10th November 2013
The work of the Edinburgh-based artists known as the Scottish Colourists: FCB Caddell, JD Ferguson, George Hunter and Samuel Peploe inspired the theme and setting of Made in Colour. The group is credited with introducing impressionism to early 20th century Scotland; and it was the exquisite palette of vivid colours which won the artists their collective name.
Made in Colour’s setting reflects the elegant Edinburgh drawing rooms featured in Caddell’s work; and using pieces of craft to create still life ‘paintings’ in boxes fronted with picture frames creates an illusion of some of the Colourists’ work.
Local makers Paul Cardew, Jill Holland and Helen Round, together with Falmouth-based Remon Jephcott, once again produced stunning new work inspired by the theme of Made in Colour. Exciting new makers include: ceramicists Alison Graham and Kara Thatcher, jewellers Tracey Falvey and Fay Jenkinson, and glass artist Ruth Shelley whose beautiful bowl, Towards Brecon, features on the Made in Colour poster.
